Well my all time favorite book is Dear John but im sure youve read that :)......But A stolen life by Jaycee Dugard.. is a very powerful book about her kidnapping..... not a very happy book though. if thats what you are looking for

Michael, the difference between the book and the movie is that in the book, John and Savvanah never get together again. Tim gets well and John stays in the army. In the movie, they made an ending like this and then they changed it. There are videos on YouTube with the first version of the end, too. :D
And I think you will understand the movie better after you read the book, because you have all those background stories. :D
I'm a fan of Nicholas Sparks' books. I recommend you Dear John and A Walk To Remember
